Wild Cards

In cards as well as life, one must work with the hand they’re dealt; whether they embrace it or fight against it, there’s no denying that certain things are entirely up to what some would call luck.
As such, when Suravi Rahman falls through a mirror into San Francisco with no idea how she got there, or even how she escaped the near-fatal car crash that is the last thing she can remember, she thinks it’s fair to say that her luck is a mixed bag.
With a card embedded in her chest and nowhere else to go, Suravi finds herself drawn into the secret world of the magical girls, normal girls given the power to transform and fight a hidden war against the Shades, unageing boys born from the twisted reflection that is the Other Side. Debuting as Lucky Spade, Suravi teams up with Jessica Martin, also known as Lucky Clover, a homeless girl with issues of her own. As the two girls fight to defend San Francisco from the attacks of the Shades, they must also contend with the fallout of Lucky Heart’s disastrous battle from almost a year ago. A card is missing from the deck, and other players have yet to reveal their hands…

Wild Cards is a story of magical girls who must fight to change their fortunes. Though the past is set in stone, the future is unwritten, and in order to reach a brighter tomorrow, they must bet everything against impossible odds.

The story is quite dark, and as such, I’ve made a list of content warnings:

Content Warnings
  • Graphic depictions of violence
  • Swearing, rude language
  • Death
  • Child abuse
  • Eating disorders
  • Implications of rape/sexual abuse/pedophilia
  • Transphobia and general bigoted-ness
  • Homelessness

This list may be added to later on, as more chapters are released.

Wild Cards is also on Royal Road and Scribblehub; chapters are posted everywhere at the same time.

One more thing: this is my second attempt at making a site for Wild Cards, which is why the dates I posted the first three chapters here don’t match up with when I posted them elsewhere. I hope you don’t mind.

Enjoy!
